The CCBC Sprints are our spring regatta — a weekend of short, fast 500 metre racing on the Shannon. Saturday 23 + Sunday 24 May 2026. Five lanes wide, decided in the last hundred.

Racing on the Shannon at Castleconnell

The race

500 metres on fair water — one of the widest sprint courses on the Irish racing calendar. The start sits upstream of the island; the finish is level with the clubhouse landing at World’s End. The river runs gently, but the prevailing south-westerly can build a headwind across the second 250 metres. A full programme in both sculling and sweep — singles, doubles, pairs, fours and eights. Saturday runs from Junior 13 through Junior 18. Masters, Novices and Para racing on Sunday.

Entries

Entries run through the Rowing Ireland system. Entries close at 19:00 on the Thursday before race weekend (Thursday 14 May 2026 for this regatta) — watch the Rowing Ireland competitions page for any late-entry window and the live draw and race times as they publish.

On the day

  • Races from early-morning, all straight finals; presentations running all day to keep pace!
  • Parking in the village, marshalls will advise, please don’t park on the access road.
  • Hot food and tea from the clubhouse all day.

Coming to watch

Free, no ticket. The finish line at World’s End gives the closest view — most of the close finishes go through within a length over the last 50 metres. Toilets, food and hot drinks in the clubhouse; plenty of grass for chairs.
